Hi,
I just ordered söldner, and I would like to know is there any players left on söldner? Is there any servers on europe with people on it?
EDIT: Also, I'd like to know why the newest patch is so big? (320mb)

Basicly to be very short if you use the search function of the forum all your answers are there.
To see how many people are playing just check this list: http://soldner.jowood.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35289
Average around 200 people at the evenings
Why the patch is so big, due the fact that you have all add-on content but you need to activate it with a cd-key which you will get when you buy soldner gold or soldner marine corps the add-on
Relating to the servers take a look at the same list: http://soldner.jowood.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35289
most servers (all) are based in europe
Cheers,
Hey Leopardi,
Welcome to the Soldner community! At the moment we have around the 200 players online and a lot more registered users. We are working hard to promote Soldner. To get the most out of Soldner play it with a bunch off friends (and a Teamspeakserver), so if you like our game let them know  If you have any questions left feel free to post them. Have fun!

What? Do I need to buy more soldner things to get the patch installed? That's stupid! I can't play söldner because I don't have money to buy another söldner, so do I have to return my söldner back?

Hmh, is marine corps or other add ons in this reloaded version, because I can see 2 add on keycodes here?
Matthijs Beelen
22.09.2005, 11:09
Reloaded is only soldner, no marine corps. Installing the patch will give you the latest fixes and changes but no new vehicles or weapons.
Cheers,
Leopardi,
To get you started here is is the offcial Soldner reloaded strategy guide for free!

Just right-click and do "save as". Would you be so kind to let us know your experience with playing Soldner online?

I like the game, especially the advanced destruction system, but theres a lack of action, huge maps and ~32players isnt enough. Maps where the other team is defending a city and the other team is attacking would be nice. Objectives should be added too. Example: There's a city and a defense line in outskirts of the city, the defending team must defend it, and the other team must take the defensive positions, once the other team has taken the defense line, the defending team must fall back to the city and then we would have some city warfare. Example 2: Theres a hill with 2 bases, you start from the other side of the hill, and the other team starts from the another side of the hill, and then just fight for the hill. I also would like to know why are the vehicles moving laggy when you are a passenger in a vehicle?

Now I'm having some problems with söldner :(
When I try to start the game a cd icon will appear, and then nothing..computer just thinks and thinks but its not reading the cd. Last time when it worked, it started, but after the intros it sais something like this: "Sorry! 3d device (or direct3d) could not be created, please install directx 8.1 or higher." I have directx 9, why doesnt it work?
EDIT: It works, but the starting of the game lasts for 5 minutes, even longer. Can it be fixed?

Depends on your RAM configuration and your machine. Normally 1 GB of RAM makes the game quite fast, a good hard disc with a good speed also helps a lot. And of course the CPU speed should be above 2 GHz. If u have all that and it is still loading slowly then the configuration of your computer on software level is not optimal as the error message u mentioned already suggests.
But it always helps if u show the support team ur complete system and the exact error messages. they'll help u for sure. ;)

my system is this:
Amd Athlon XP 3200+ barton
1024mb (2x512) kingston DDr400mhz
Sapphire Radeon 9600 XT 256mb
120gb maxtor 8mb
nVidia nForce 2 NF7
Also, I remember when I installed the game, it ran fast to 50% but then I went to internet and it slowed down. I pressed cancel and installed the game again, but it was very slow, it took about 20-30 minutes to install the game.

I have 2 gb of DDR, dual cards in SLI, a pair of raptors in a raid array, and a amd64 processor and it still takes forever to load.

Loading times depends on the computer and the ram. Also has a little bit to do with your connection.
In my case 10 seconds and I'm in the portal. Specs are not important to post.
Normal loading time: <2min less then 768 gb of ram
Fast loading time: <1min around the 1 gb of ram

I'm talking about the loading screen with the slooooooow rainbow stripe. If it's this slow for someone with dual raptors + my setup, I feel really bad for other people. :(

Tostitos I have even better specs then you, and as what I said it's the ram and not the processor. Basicly what happens in the loading screen is that the worldmap get load up, and all content get verified.
just check my profile and there you see my specs, not from my last computer. http://soldner.jowood.com/forum/member.php?u=5339
So how more ram how less startup time.

Hmm, i run an Athlon XP 1800 processor with 512 mb ddr ram. Loading Soldner takes about two minutes. The loading time can be longer than what you used to due to the fact that we use a HUGE map (it is about the size of Europe). Try looking around in spectate mode an you see what i mean.
However, i can run Soldner perfectly on my lower spec computer..

Just to give base for comparison:
AMD XP 2600+
1 GB Corsair 400 Mhz Dual Channel
AGP GeforceFX 5600 128 MB
and my loadig screen normally takes 90 seconds until I can see the mouse again and then I need another 30 secs until I am connected with the portal. (seeing the mouse doesn't mean that I can see the main menu)
1.5gb ram
xp2500 barton
takes roughly 100-120 seconds to get to the login screen from when the loading screen starts.

Hey, I had a question. I've always wondered this:
If I knew where to look, could I go from say, Armybase to Cold Winter? I'd probably have to travel several hundred miles in the right direction, but could I?

yes, you can do that. But then you wont have the terminals also no buildings.

So what's the real point of having to load the HUGE map into ram if there's no point to the rest of the map? I don't know of anyone that gets in a jet, flies for 15 minutes past the edge of the battle area just to fly 15 minutes back and call it a sneak attack. Break the maps down some, load what you need when you need it, and save us the resources. I mean seriously, it takes more time for me to unload everything after a night of playing than it takes to load the game and get to the battle (which is about 3 minutes). AND if the map is loaded into memory, why does it take a year for a map change, or even a switch from night to day, etc.? I don't think blaming specs is the way to go anymore... the devs have done this from the start. Start thinking inside the box, then fix it.
One more thing... waiting until the end of the year to patch MAY fix alot of issues that might arise if patched now, but there's still the issue of christmas... you know, when MOST new games to awe the consumer get released? I'd school you guys on marketing, but it'll never happen, so once again I'll go camp some spawns and wait for something that won't happen to happen.

What do you want to do?release the patch in 6 months?Christmas is in 3 months now, people aren't shopping for gifts 3 months before christmas.
However,I agree with you and the huge maps,no point. It took me about 10min in a F15 to travel 100Km to see if anything was there.Pointless.......

I don't know where you're from man, but most places I've lived, christmas shopping starts just after halloween. What do you do, buy presents AFTER christmas? =)

just after halloween?man, where you live is strange, people where you live are bordering fanatism, every one I know buys presents in late-november(maybe even very early december). Now I don't know for you,but halloween for me is the 31st of october, buying gifts almost 2 months in advance isn't necessary.
PS,late november is from the 20th to the 30th
Hey guys,
Both of you are right. Thanks for the suggestions. However i am sure that the whole developent team would love see the game being patched before december. Problem is that we work for free in our own time with limited recources (C++ coders). That is why our focus is on a quality patch instead of a smart release date. You could speed up the process though if you know some coders ;)

The policy to make releases by a date (lets release before christmas shopping) is not the right way.
We have seen in the past when Jowood says:"There is a hype for soldner, lets release it now".
And then they have released a game that was full of bugs.
The right way is to release when it is ready for release and not a second earlier and this is the way we are going. We dont need some more frustrated players.

Tostitos, you can fly from Desert Raid to Gravel Pit with an Osprey. It takes about 20 minutes. However, you need to check out the editor to determine the direction and look for landmarks to help guide you along. Beelen is correct in that while you may get to another map's area you won't see of the features. In fact, what you see is the area before JoWooD or PZ added the details in. I have a screenshot of Gravel Pit without any of the details there if you want to see it (although it just looks like a big crater).
Now granted, as Loopback pointed out not everyone is going to fly from one map to the next. But what a disappointment it would be to fly into an invisible wall should I stray too far from the action. It would remind me of 80's games (think "Gunship") where you fought in a small square area and could never get around some of the features because of the maps boundaries. It took a lot of the fun out of the game to realize you were confined to a small space. One of the best features of Soldner is the unlimited area (or nearly so) you can move around in.
There must be a way to streamline the loading times and still preserve the map as it is. I know for a fact that the detail maps are only loaded as you enter a server so perhaps if the serving machine was the one to give you the map, it might help a little.
Tostitos
25.09.2005, 05:29
What if there was a system of loading parts of the map?
Start the game, it loads the square mile around the base, and slowly increases the area loaded in the background until it's 20 square (in a large circle) miles if someone initiates training. (and also loading 15 mile circles around all possible mission locations) If you started moving rapidly in one direction or another, it would continue streamloading to give you a large loaded area no matter where you go, without needing to load the entire thing at once.
Joining a multiplayer game would preload a 20-30 mile circle, and so on.

Do you really need that much space?read one of my posts above:an F15,10 minutes,3000Km/h and I traveled 100Km.A 200Km diameter map is definatly enough because the only way you can get to the end in reasonable amount of time is by jets.I remember a game whhen if your plane went out of the map,the game said there was a storm there and you needed to go back so the computer turned around for you.(clever little developpers:D)
Just to add to the specs -vs- load time question..
AtlonXP 1800+ w/896mb PC2700 RAM and a GF4ti4200 Pro 128mb 4x AGP card, running on 3Mb/384kb Cable ISP.
It takes an average of 2min 30secs to get to the log-in screen, and that includes "escaping" thru the intro movie.
If I change the script in the config file so the intro is skipped, it still takes the same amount of time.
... Just my 2 cents ...

Hi all.
I'm new here. I want to inform that Soldner is to be released in Poland in October so expect lots of new players. I know some polish players behaves in harsh way but I'm sure there will be much more polite and cooperative.
The only thing making me worry is very little or no at all advertisement. I've got this information by accident. Please anyone from Project Zero squad - talk to CD Project to give more information to customers so they will be able evaluate your work with patches. Currently in Poland there is still common belief Soldner is full of bugs and almost no infomation about current state :(
I'm eagerly waiting to meet you on the Soldner's battlefield.
Regards to the Project Zero team and Soldner community.

talking about time saving... how about creating a "multiplayer.exe" which directly connects you to the portal and doesn't load the singleplayermap just to see your söldner in front of that house. or is that necessary?

Good news!
Soldner is to be released in Poland 13th October and this is confirmed information. The advertisement here seems to be better now so there is a chance Soldner community will grow up significantly, especially considering fact the price is very good for polish standarts.
The release will include Marine Corps add-on.
Soooo, beware, we are coming... ;).
Seriously I know we will be just target practice for you veterans... At the beginning :)
See you in firefight :)

Thank you for kind words :) However other nations also have good reputation as warriors, escpecially Germans, who are, I suppose, majority of players now. Dutch being considered one of the best martial artists... So competition is strong... That's good :D
You can be sure I'm spreading the word. With some success :)
